Research Facilities

Department of EEE is actively engaging in research areas ranging from practical implementation to theoretical investigations. The main activity is to gear up B.Tech & M.Tech students under JNTUH curriculum through course and laboratory works in R&D direction. Department of EEE is subdivided into three areas like academic, development & research work and all these are being combined to achieve appropriate goals with the help of administrative support.

The Development & Research group in consultation with the academic work schedule has broken-up the activities along with 10 specific subareas. These are supported by 9 laboratories. (Refer Figure 1.) This is further shown with charts for laboratory link and subject link as specified by JNTUH. (Refer Table 1 & 2).

1) Closed Loop Control System Test set up on Immulated Embedded System platform (My Rio with Xylinc FPGA of NI)
with Inverted Pendulum and Extending My Rio set up with sensors and actuators H/W aided by Lab View S/W.
(a) To Install and make the set up Functional after appropriate training from NI.
(b) Make the above in Closed Loop Operational along with Mechatronics, Embedded Accessory and Starter Kit.
(c) Use the above platform for BIET and RCI indigenous embedded system for Closed Loop System Design, Test and Validation.
(d) The Results of Lab View should be Compared with standard MATLAB and SIMULINK Platform.
(e) Formulate simple test bed (My Rio / indigenous) Controller with available small motor and any other sensors.
(f) Use MATLAB SIMULINK for closed loops simulation tests followed by Lab View Software.
(g) Introduction of P / PI / PID Controllers for Bode / FR plots for stability analysis and compare with time response on the same test bed.
(h) Introduction of NI my DAQ for Quick Testing, Online Data storage and Instrumentation in Real Lab Environment with Bode Analyzer, Arbitrary Wave Form Generator, Dynamic Signal Analyzer and Digital I/O Interfaces.

 

2) Robotics Build up with standard kit & Application software Development
(a) To install and make the three set ups functional after appropriate training from NI.
(b) Use Extensively Lab View Software for the above set up development and tests.
(c) The Results of Lab View should be compared with standard MATLAB and SIMULINK Platform.
(d) NI, My RIO Mechatronics Kit and PITSCO TETRIX (R) Prime to be made functional for using in ROBOTS etc.
(e) Mumbai, IIT Robot is operational and some more tests with application software is planned.

3) 3D printer medium size is fully operational and number of Student Project from ECE ( ) is completed and further projects from EEE and MECHANICAL are in progress.

4) Electronic kits for embedded system platform with closed loop Controller as well as number of electrical autonomous systems are functional and more tests are to be performed.

5) Immulated Embedded System Platform My RIO of National instruments (Xylinc FPGA and a dual core Arm Cortex-A9 processor) for application algorithm development with realistic computer hardware, I/O s and software architecture. (ARM processor with RTOS) are in process.
• -To freeze hardware and software architecture.
• -Put Embedded Software in available systems.
• -Test the software and use simple closed loop simulation in real time with available embedded system.

6. Microcontroller closed loop with sensors and drives. 7. Drive Electronics for actuating systems using various PE Devices ((Power Thyristor, MOSFET, IGBT etc.) in Open and Closed Loop System:
(a) Below 10 Amps (Power Transistor, MOSFET) in SET Lab.
(b) Above 10 Amps (Thyristor and IGBT) in Machines Lab.
Both Open and Closed Loop System should be simulated using MATLAB as well as LAB VIEW.
8. To Support: (a) For any other drive electronics for Control and Embedded system in SET Lab.
(b) To support Machines Lab, Renewable Energy activities and Micro grid with power electronic applications.
9. New approaches for design of DC-DC Converters, Stabilizers & Power Supplies etc.
10. Use of existing Edge Fx kits for all power electronics related activities for selection, comparison and tests.
